Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt:   Write about a fear you have overcome. Prompt Response: I had overcome the fear of sewers after watching the movie "It" back in 2017 when I was in 3rd grade. I watched the movie with my older sister and she somewhat forced me to watch it in the dark, my family was sleeping at the time, after watching that movie I had become deathly afraid of the clown and sewers. It was tough since I couldn't shower properly without getting scared, I usually left the door wide open ready for me to run out, I got nightmares about it too. As I got older it slowly got better until I got tired of it and overcame it.  Summary: We were put into groups of three by Mr. Rease, the assignment given to us was 'Identifying Claims', we are meant to read an article and then find the claims within it, putting the answers on a document. Working with the group for the entire class time and the work was supposed to be finished by the end of the class. While trying to work on it, Mr. Rease...

As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

Prompt:  As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?  Prompt Response: I am having trouble trying to think of an answer for this prompt, I am sure there are plenty of things I can argue with my family but I am not entirely sure what type of topic I will be needing to argue about as I grow. I think there is something that I will need to keep stating to people, that I do not plan to have kids any time soon or marry any person. I really want to live for myself and have fun with friends rather than settle down into a family while I can go out and explore. If I were to marry, I'd expect us to switch roles in cooking and cleaning or going to work rather than me staying at home and they go to work like how my mom suggests it. Summary: Today was a block day, we went over new notes this time about claim and continued on the previous notes from yesterday about ...

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt:  Write about a time when you were judged unfairly. Prompt Response: There could be many times when a person was judged unfairly, unfortunately there isn't much I remember but I can think of something simple like when I was judged for not being talkative as a kid unlike the other children. I don't think it was fair to blame me for not being able to make close friends, I was a kid who probably had difficulty with talking.  Summary: Today Mr. Rease wasn't here and we had another Commonlit assignment to do, "What Fear Can Teach Us," and we had the entire class time to do it. Since Mr. Rease wasn't here we obviously had a sub, in the assignment there would be 5 or 6 pop questions then after that the actual questions of 5 shows up. Number 5 is where we had to type while the other 4 were multiple choice questions. Reflection:  It was a good exercise for my brain, it is a way that I somewhat had liked better to learn literature when I was younger, because it ...

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt:   Prompt: Write about a truth you were afraid to accept. Prompt Response: That time is running out, quite basic actually but it still doesn't feel nice to know that. It's scary to think how 2020 was only 5 years ago, it only felt like it was just last year or something. I'm not in 5th grade when they told us we wouldn't be going to school for 2 weeks, now I am a junior in high-school who is about to go to the adult world. I turned 17 last month so it's a nice reality check.  Summary: Today we did notes with Mr Rease over 'Argument', we were told to take out a sheet of paper or our notebooks to write on. He told us to write down the highlighted parts from the board and talked about how an argument is an opinion that I supported by evidence and that it doesn't have to persuade people. After note taking we were given a piece of paper about logos, ethos and pathos, we were told to do three questions on the front and if we weren't finished with i...

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt:   Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations? Prompt Response: If I were learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the first time, I would be more likely curious on the traditions they do and how many various natives there are within their countries. I am a Mexican-American, but I was never really taught any rare information about Hispanics or Latinos nor did I really took the time to research. But it would be a nice change to learn something that I don't know in our culture and tradition.  Summary: Today we took the class time to finish conversing about the cluster, Mr. rease had us take notes on the paper. He taught us how to do 3 point thesis statement and helped us through making our own cluster over the topic "Overrated". I chose labubus, the famous plush keychains, because they really were overrated that became an unnecessary trend t...

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

Prompt:  After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work. Prompt Response: I'll be honest with you, despite being in this class for almost 2 months I do not remember the majority of my classmate's names. It is something I should learn and I don't blame the others for not knowing mine either, I did like the majority of the poems, they    were all creative and had more in depth. If I recall I might have liked the poem about the fireworks more, it had great images and creative writing, it had me thinking like "Wow I would have never though of this!" Summary: Today in a block day, we presented our poems to the class and instead of reading it to them in person, we would play the recorded animated characters. We were given a piece of paper to rate our classmates poems, I had trouble turning in my poem and loading it to the screen but it worke...

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Prompt:  Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you. Prompt Response: I definitely do not use this vocabulary in my speaking nor did I ever use them this semester, but if I were to choose which words I would use the most this semester is ambiguous, affinity and adroit. I like the word ambiguous since I am more familiar with this word and using the word affinity will be a nice change to use for affection toward something. When it comes to adroit, the vocab looks nice, I also needed a new word to describe something clever or skillful. Summary: Today we took out the paper books from under our desks and were told to turn to page 5, our assignment today was to write a sentence with the 15 vocabulary provided.  After finishing the sentences we would work on both exercise 1 and 3, they weren't really complicated and just used the 15 vocabulary pr...

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

Prompt:  In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes? Prompt Response: I don't think there was ever a time when someone else was an interloper in my life, but there would be times when I felt like an interloper, I feel it whenever I'm with the friends of a friend of mine. Like an intruder in their conversations and it makes things awkward that I never know how to respond. So many times I was either a third wheel or just someone randomly brought into their group, in elementary I liked to intrude a few times because I only had one friend. It was clear they found it awkward with me there.  Summary: Today Mr. Rease wasn't here so we had to work on our assignment in Commonlit, which I must admit I haven't used in many y...

It’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

Prompt:  It’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event? Prompt Response: I have been here for more than a month into this school and had recently transferred here, so I don't really have a solid opinion in this school nor do I have a school spirit. Fear not I didn't have the school spirit at any of my schools, I don't have any to love most about being part of this school nor do I know much about homecoming traditions. A way to show off the school spirit is to perhaps contribute to the activities. Summary: Today we took the time to do our "Constantly Risking Absurdity" Assessment, it was based on the poem we analyzed together on Monday. The class took 30 minutes, to take the assessment we were each given different codes in paper, with different versions of the assessment to make sure no one will cheat. I think I got the D version...

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

Prompt: Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.  Prompt Response: I'm not too sure, I doubt there was much of anything to enjoy when I'm trying to figure out how I should make it or having trouble putting things into words. I guess it is fun to have a poem that rhymes and sounds good, I also think its a nice idea that you can take any random object and use it to connect with the theme of your poem. Summary: Today we were supposed to start on our poems, Mr. Rease went over a presentation on figurative language with us. Showing what kind they are and what their definitions are or how they can be used in poems. Afterwards he would give us the time to brainstorm ideas for our draft, for the rest of the class time people were planning and writing.  I had trouble just like some of my classmates, to make or start a poem, the guys next to me were talking to Mr. Rease on how to make their poems. Reflection: I learned that I definitel...

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

Prompt:  Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.  Prompt Response: I guess I can agree with Class discussions, it shows that the entire class is into this lesson together and if one was too hesitant to ask something, they get the benefit of someone else asking instead and can be comforted with the idea that they are not the only one confused about something. People can learn from other peoples perspectives and the other methods aren't so bad to learn from. I think all the methods will eventually teach me things and stuff. Summary: Today we were supposed to be finishing up our poems and work on our posters, Mr. Rease went over how we should do it and told us that it would be voice recorded. We spent the class time doing so and people can go outside the classroom to record their part, the characters are funny looking. I first tried to finish my poem first and would work on my poster aft...

After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

Prompt:   After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity. Prompt Response: I don't really have any absurd personal experience, I didn't do anything risky in life because I was a whole coward and preferred to stay safe and even if I did I wouldn't recall any of it. But I can say who else did foolish things or something absurd, once when I transferred into a new middle school during semester 2 in 7th grade, it was 6th pd and this very short fellow Hispanic never stopped bothering me. That year was the year when on tiktok or public, guys would 'scream' out loud in an inappropriate manner and they would do it every second which I personally found disturbing and annoying, this dude de...

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

Prompt:   You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why? Prompt Response: There isn't a song that would accurately describe my life right now but I can think of my favorite songs that have a good upbeat rhythm. "Dancing with Myself" by Billy Idol is a song I liked a lot, it's been a part of my childhood from the intro of this movie "Flushed Away" and I loved it ever since. I was a much younger kid who had no knowledge of music or how to find music, it brings good vibes and I chose it to describe my life because its been there for a long while and most my playlists have upbeat songs. Summary: Today we took a quiz based on Emily Dickinson's poems and I had the version A, of course during the test I knew I was NOT going to make it through since I lack common sense with poems no matter what. Then we transferred our...

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

Prompt:  If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be? Prompt Response: If I were to compose one, the topic would be Memory and the overall message would be to cherish the present and learn from the past. Why I chose Memory is because I have this bad habit of missing the past and always thinking how simple things really were, I always recall the memories and keep whatever I can have from the past. If I were to cherish the present I wouldn't need to feel like I missed out on things in the future.  Summary: Today we completed analyzing the other two poems of Emily Dickinson, "I heard a Fly buzz - when I died - (591)" and "Hope' is the thing with feathers", we went more quickly than usual and afterwards we would be doing our assignment of a Song playlist based on these poems. 5 songs in total and it was due today, we weren't able to complete another assignment d...

You’ve been in American Literature for 4.5 weeks now. How has the class been going for you so far?

Prompt:   You’ve been in American Literature for 4.5 weeks now. How has the class been going for you so far?  Prompt Response: Class has been doing well lately, I don't really feel like I'm stressed with the need to know something, my classmates are pretty funny in their own way. Good vibes in the class, it's also the last class of the day so it's pretty chill in there. The learning has been at a nice pace and not thrown at my face, I don't feel like I'm messing out on anything and that my brain is caught up with the rest of the others.  Summary: Today we looked over the poem "Because I could not stop for Death." by Emily Dickinson with Mr. Rease. We spent the entire class time analyzing the poem and writing down annotations, Mr. Rease was quick to understand and highlight anything important. He had told us that there will be a test or quiz by Friday over poems and that by the end of the year he was sure we will gain the ability to read and understand ...
