Prompt:  Today you created similes and metaphors that reflect your struggles, growth, and resilience. In a well-developed paragraph, reflect on the process. What did you learn about yourself while writing your figurative language? Prompt Response: The one thing I learned about myself was that I wasn't that bad into making some metaphors as I thought I was. I did somewhat decent coming up a few good ones and creating the smilies was pretty simple. I also learned that it was hard to think of stuff that other people might have said to me in a bad way, because I don't remember anything negative since I'm the one to ignore them and move on with my day.  Summary: Today we turned in our sheets from yesterday and began a new one, where we create our own similes and metaphors, six on both sides. One side was about overcoming (personal growth) and the other side with part 2 is about what others have said about you. We were supposed to be finished by the end of class, if not comple...

Prompt:   Describe how you spent your time, any activities, traditions, travel, hobbies, or moments that stood out to you. You may also discuss something new you tried, something you learned, or how the break helped you reset before returning to school. Keep your response appropriate for a school setting and focus on experiences you are comfortable sharing publicly. Prompt Response: This break was nothing different like the previous ones, I stayed at home like always and basically just did things that I usually do on a normal weekend. I'd either sleep or do some hobbies like crafting things, I also like to catch up on some shows I didn't have time for and play games with my friend. This break really helped me relax and catch up on a lot of sleep, it also gave a lot of time for myself, which was needed, and I took the extra time to study on other subjects I need to work on. Summary: Today we read a poem and watched a video about "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou. After w...

If you had to describe how you show love using only three objects (for example: a playlist, a hoodie, a late-night snack, a long text message, etc.), what would you choose and why? Explain what each object represents and how it connects to your personality.

Prompt:   If you had to describe how you show love using only three objects (for example: a playlist, a hoodie, a late-night snack, a long text message, etc.), what would you choose and why? Explain what each object represents and how it connects to your personality. Prompt Response: If I had to describe how I show love using only three objects, it would be handmade gifts, snacks, and a well made card with that person's interests. I chose these objects because its basically what I do, I like to do hand made gifts that t use a lot of effort, care, and time for the person I care for and I like to give snacks since I would like to receive some too from anyone I care. I don't like buying cards from stores as much because it doesn't always contain the interests of that person nor does it seem that special as a hand made one would.  Summary: Today we were given paper with a heart on it, our job was to write a poem for a loved one for Valentine's day, by the end of class Mr. ...

Today, you learned how to complete a rhetorical analysis planning guide step by step, from identifying the rhetorical situation to analyzing devices and effects. Reflect on one step of the rhetorical analysis process that helped you understand the process more clearly. Explain what you learned during that step and how it improved your ability to analyze a speaker’s message.

Prompt:   Today, you learned how to complete a rhetorical analysis planning guide step by step, from identifying the rhetorical situation to analyzing devices and effects. Reflect on one step of the rhetorical analysis process that helped you understand the process more clearly. Explain what you learned during that step and how it improved your ability to analyze a speaker’s message. Prompt Response: The one step of the rhetorical analysis process that helped me was step 3, finding the rhetorical devices themselves is a helpful step to have an entire layout of the essay along with the thesis. Finding the devices on a text helps with evidence and helps choose the topic of your body paragraphs. I learned how much it helped to know what devices there were in the text, to know many options to pick in my thesis and what my body paragraphs would be about. It also helps me understand the text more, improving my ability to also analyze a speaker's message. Summary: Today we completed...

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day week, describe your idea of a perfect day spent with someone you care about (a friend, family member, or significant person in your life).

Prompt:   In the spirit of Valentine’s Day week, describe your idea of a perfect day spent with someone you care about (a friend, family member, or significant person in your life). Prompt Response: For Valentines day, I really wanted to go out with my friend, unfortunately I do not think she will be able to. This will be the billionth time when she is barely allowed to go outside with friends, it gets really lonely on my part. If things work out, I plan to give her my gift and maybe go to a roller skating rink, park, bookstore, or any other store to eye shop at. It can also just be a simple hang out at my house, I just like hanging out with her. Summary: Today we looked over the prompt about Barack Obama's Primary Concession Speech, and filled in information on the Rhetorical Analysis Planning Guide. We only managed to complete step one and two, we were supposed to read the passage and annotate for rhetorical appeals, devices, and choices.  Reflection: I can reflect tha...

Now that you have completed the rhetorical analysis essay, reflect on your growth. Explain how this experience impacted your confidence as a writer and whether you feel prepared to continue analyzing complex speeches and texts in American Literature. Support your reflection with specific references to the writing process.

Prompt:  Now that you have completed the rhetorical analysis essay, reflect on your growth. Explain how this experience impacted your confidence as a writer and whether you feel prepared to continue analyzing complex speeches and texts in American Literature. Support your reflection with specific references to the writing process. Prompt Response: Well I did better than I usually do when it comes to writing essays, the one thing that hasn't changed was not completing the essay in time. I have an issue with that for some reason, I improved slightly and surprisingly wrote a lot more than I usually am able to. I can say its embarrassing that I struggle to write an essay with a time limit, my brain does not think that fast and its obvious that's an issue and not acceptable especially if I plan to go to college one day. So I have no excuses and always accept it, the only thing I can do is learn from it and continue to try, I guess my confidence didn't change much, its as I expe...

What is the best piece of advice of that your parent or guardian has given you? Tell what the advice was and what prompted you to ask the question.

Prompt:  What is the best piece of advice of that your parent or guardian has given you? Tell what the advice was and what prompted you to ask the question.   Prompt Response: I cannot remember a time when my mom had given me good advice, I know I ask her sometimes but her response was not all that satisfying to remember. I barely ask for advice from her, if she does ever give advice it'll just be what I already tell myself, so it wouldn't be anything new nor would it be life changing.   Summary: Today we read over a poem, and had to fill out the graph on the other side of the paper. Mr. Rease helped fill out the 2 boxes and read the entire poem with us. After he had given us time to do it ourselves, we went over the answers together as a class, reading each section of the poem and connecting it back to the graph. We managed to finish the assignment by the end of class and turned it in.  Reflection: I can reflect that I misunderstood part of the assignment,...

Describe a real moment in your life that felt like the beginning of a powerful story. Tell what happened, and why it felt like a turning point in your life?

Prompt:  Describe a real moment in your life that felt like the beginning of a powerful story. Tell what happened, and why it felt like a turning point in your life? Prompt Response: A real moment in my life that felt like the beginning of a powerful story was meeting my friends that I made back in 7th grade. Well not entirely a powerful story but I do like my friend being involved with my life, it felt like a turning point of my life because it was the first time I initiated a friendship and forced myself out my comfort zone to be social. I made beautiful friends, it made me improve on my social skills and brought me so many good memories. It was a good improvement from being isolated during quarantine and the years before that, after that moment I still have an amazing friend. Summary: Today we were given a packet of notes on how to write a rhetorical paragraph, using a previously done packet of rhetorical analysis on Dr. King's speech. After thoroughly reading the notes wi...

What is the most challenging part of writing an essay for you? Is it brainstorming, organizing ideas, writing a strong thesis, or something else? How do you plan to overcome this challenge?

Prompt:  What is the most challenging part of writing an essay for you? Is it brainstorming, organizing ideas, writing a strong thesis, or something else? How do you  plan to overcome this challenge? Prompt Response: The most challenging part of writing an essay for me really depends, I can be good on one part and be stuck on anything else, I was not the brightest when it comes to writing essays growing up. I was good once in elementary, but eventually over time I became worse and not my strongest suit. I can struggle with brainstorming because I lack ideas but then again I can effortlessly get through it just fine in different cases. I think I struggled overthinking when writing a thesis. I overcome this challenge whenever I can, the last time I had to write essays was last year and that was my worst year mentally, so I gave up pretty easily, however, I feel a bit more determined to improve this year.  Summary: Today we continued to finish writing down the Rhetoric...

What is the most challenging part of working in a group? Discuss a time when a group assignment did not go as well as you planned and how you learned from that experience.

Prompt:  What is the most challenging part of working in a group? Discuss a time when a group assignment did not go as well as you planned and how you learned from that experience.  Prompt Response: Sometimes it can be challenging to work in a group, there are many different opinions and preferences on how things should be done, there would be times when not everybody agrees on something. Fortunately, every group I had that was more than two people had gone well for me, it was mostly a pair group that usually got tricky. I was partners with this one girl for a physical sci project last year, we were to build a motion thing that includes any object that pushes the ball to move. My partner decided it was best to build something that took more work to set up, mind you she barely was present and I had to do the majority of the work. In the end it was barely done and it sucked. I learned that most of my partners in that class, all year, were the worst partners I have been giv...

If you had to write a poem about your life RIGHT NOW, what would it be about? Explain your answer in at least 4 to 5 sentences.

Prompt:  If you had to write a poem about your life RIGHT NOW, what would it be about? Explain your answer in at least 4 to 5 sentences.  Prompt Response: If I were to write a poem about my life right now, it would be about absolute boredom and relaxation. I get bored a lot from school, I don't get any motivation for it nor do I have any inspiring goals to reach. I only have one friend and they're in a different county, we barely get to see each other so I get bored without her. I feel relaxed most of the time too since I hate feeling stressed, I can still be happy and enjoy things, so basically the poem will just be about how I can get bored but happy at the same time.  Summary: Today we wrote down notes on Rhetorical Analysis with Mr. Rease, with a sheet of paper we wrote down what was on the board. We did this for the rest of class, learning what it is and how to write a thesis. We also looked over examples from President Trumps' and Martin Luther King Jr's speec...
